The Garden of Remembrance (Gan Zikaron) Memorial Park is a nonprofit, 501(C)(3) tax exempt religious organization established in September 1999 to provide Jewish burial grounds and practices to the Greater Washington, Maryland, and Virginia Jewish community. An agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, and affiliated with twenty-nine Partner Congregations, the Garden of Remembrance provides a location for Jewish interments and memorials in a meaningful setting that meets the religious needs and laws for all segments of the Jewish community. “Kavod Hamet,” honoring the deceased, is the most important and valued “mitzvah” (commandment) in Jewish law enabling and requiring one to perform an obligation for which he cannot be repaid
